223 (5.56) Ammo

.223 Remington ammunition and 5.56x45 NATO are closely related and sometimes interchangeable cartridges depending on the firearm they are to be used with. Manufacturers typically offer guidance on this point. In general, the 5.56 NATO ammunition the military uses and is for sale to the civilian market operates at higher pressures than .223 Remington ammo. Most, but not all, AR-15s are chambered for 5.56 NATO and can fire both types of ammo.

Many loads in both calibers follow the M193 or M855 standard, both of which are military specifications. M193 ammo typically fires a 55 grain full metal jacket bullet at 3,240 feet per second, while M855 ammo fires a heavier 62 grain FMJ bullet at about 3,100 feet per second. These common standards are very helpful when sighting in your optics and you'll find both cartridges in-stock and available in cheap bulk packs here at Widener's

Certain specialized loads deviate from these common standards. Competition grade .223/5.56 ammo fires a heavier bullet (most commonly a Sierra MatchKing) in the 77 grain range to provide better stability and more predictable trajectories; varmint loads, on the other hand, fire light 30-40 grain bullets at very high velocities to produce lethal fragmentation against pest animals.

One of the most sought after range loads for this caliber is Lake City ammunition, which is produced by Federal Premium Ammunition at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri. LCAAP production is typically excess from government contracts and is popular due to its military origins and high quality.

This 5.56x45 cartridge represents an exciting partnership between Hornady, one of our country’s preeminent bullet manufacturers, and the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, the U.S. Armed Forces’ largest producer of small arms ammo. Hornady crafted this M193 round its 55 grain projectile, and thus its uniform lead core is clad in a highly consistent full metal jacket. Its bullet’s symmetrical meplat and exceptional concentricity give this range load all the accuracy you need to enjoy rewarding practice with your rifle.

These rounds’ other components are all Lake City’s considerable doing. Their thoroughly standardized casings ensure seamless feeding and ejection as well as interchangeable performance, and their Boxer primers deliver reliable ignition and are non-corrosive. Lake City’s optimized production process and staggering output capacity have made these rounds very affordable given just how well made they are, and that Hornady subjected these rounds to their own unequaled quality assurance protocol means few others stand to be compared to them.

This Frontier label 223 Rem ammunition by Hornady is great for all the long-distance shooters out there. It showcases the Nebraskan master’s HP Match, which is basically 55 grains of nothing but accuracy-enhancing features.

The HP Match’s swaged lead core is highly uniform, and doesn’t possess air pockets that could impact its balance. Its AMP jacket is drawn with virtually zero runout or variations in its wall thickness. The HP Match is also extremely sleek, from its narrow meplat to its secant ogive geometry to its sloping boat tail.

This round’s HP Match bursts out of a 24” barrel at a velocity of 3,240 fps. So well-balanced and streamlined a bullet exhibits a G1 BC of 0.254, and can be counted on to remain supersonic beyond 700 yards. Whether you’re shooting targets or varmints, so flat a trajectory is certain to come in very handy.

The Lake City Army Ammunition Plant loads this AR-15 ammo. Widener’s customers who can’t get enough brass are sure to find a good use for this ammo’s new production cases, which are visibly annealed and long-lasting. Lake City’s military-grade primers, propellant and loading practices deliver reliable performance however you shoot!

Are you out of 223 Rem ammo? We hate to hear it. But we also love to hear it, because that means you have a perfect opportunity to give Hornady BLACK a college try. Designed in Nebraska to work without fail in all makes, models and styles of 223/5.56 firearms, these range loads are sure to treat you to loads of fun!

This cartridge’s bullet weighs 62 grains, but make no mistake: neither its lead core nor its copper-alloy jacket contain one iota of steel. The nonmagnetic bullet does achieve a muzzle velocity of 3,100 fps, however, which makes its ballistic performance not totally unlike that of the U.S. Army’s 5.56 M855 round. If you fire the FMJ out of the 24” barrel it needs to reach its posted muzzle velocity, then its 0.274 G1 BC will enable it to fly to 200 yards without going higher than 2.3” above the bore line (and that’s not taking sight height into account). The slightly heavier bullet will give you a welcome advantage if you have to deal with wind deflection!

Each BLACK round comes to the party with a virgin polished brass case – just swell if you love handloading every empty shell you come across – as well as a clean-sparking primer/propellant combo. Ten boxes per case. Order today! Time and tide wait for no man.

The 223 Rem was developed by Remington back in 1964 and after the bugs were worked out of the M-16 and its sister rifles, the 223 Rem quickly became one of America's and the Western World's favorite cartridges. Lightweight, inexpensive, and highly accurate, this low recoil round is phenomenal for range training, plinking, match shooting, and hunting applications.

Federal has been around since 1922, crafting some of America's best ammunition for nearly one hundred years. Whether you want quality inexpensive ammo for volume shooting or something incredibly effective and top of the line, Federal has exactly what you need. These Federal LE Tactical TRU rounds are designed for self defense applications. Each projectile is a 64 grain soft point that delivers controlled expansion and great barrier penetration. These bullets are loaded into factory fresh brass cases that come boxer primed and are reloadable. All Federal ammunition is loaded in the USA.

“Ten bullets through one hole.” Joyce Hornady's famous five words are inspirational, and they remain the basis for everything his company does over seven decades after he founded it.

This is Hornady’s American Gunner ammunition. Made in Nebraska. Premium reloadable brass cases. Super trustworthy primers. Propellant that won’t have you spending ages cleaning your rifle after target practice is over. Reliable functionality in all makes and models of firearms. These are all the patents of quality you should expect from any of Hornady’s fine ammo.

But the hollow point bullet is something extra special. That 55 grain projectile features a jacket with nigh perfect concentricity, which alongside its form-fitted rearward situated lead core ensures exemplary rotational stability and accuracy. So long as you don’t expect terminal expansion from the HP, it’s due to exceed your expectations.

Hornady recorded this round’s 3,240 fps muzzle velocity and its flat base bullet’s 0.254 G1 ballistic coefficient with a 24” test barrel. That translates to a trajectory which elevates 2.17” above the bore line while you’re aiming to 200 yards.

Whether your target of choice is coyote, boar, or paper targets, this .223 Remington ammunition from PMC will get the job done. These cartridges are ideal for AR-15s and other .223/5.56 NATO rifles.

Each round in this box of 20 fires a 55 grain soft point bullet at a muzzle velocity of 3,200 feet per second; this results in external ballistics comparable to those of M193 ball ammo. Once the projectile strikes the animal, however, the soft point rapidly expands into a "mushroom" with deadly effect.

PMC cartridges are loaded in South Korea using non-corrosive primers and reloadable brass cases.

Hornady’s Frontier line of ammunition is all about versatility. They boast, rightly, that a Frontier round is the one to reach for whether you would spend your afternoon plinking, target shooting, and training for law enforcement. It’s also in no way inadequate (and in fact excellent for) hunting and self-defense as well. Combined with its reasonable price, this one-size-fits-all brand is great for shooters who appreciate the opportunity to familiarize themselves with one cartridge’s performance as intimately as they can.

This 5.56x45mm cartridge features a 75 grain projectile. Its boat tail design greatly increases its ballistic coefficient to raise its accuracy, flatten its trajectory, and improve its performance in windy environments. Because the bullet is also a hollow point, it will expand to create a deep and wide wound channel in soft targets.

Frontier ammunition further offers reloadable brass casings and military grade Boxer primers and propellant. Hornady’s meticulous manufacturing process sees to it that each and every Frontier round is loaded to consistent specifications, and their quality assurance protocol ensures that they’re all flawless before exiting their factory’s doors.

    Customer Reviews

Hot and accurate with minor quality issues...

Tried this out in my 26", 8 twist, 223 Wylde bolt gun and was surprised to get .55-.65" groups. Even more amazed the velocity was 2916 fps with a 34 ES. This has to be at the hot end of the load data so be sure you have a rifle that can take it. Much cheaper, faster, and just as accurate as Magtech 77gr. Only negative was several rounds had some good dents in the shoulder area, so watch out for quality issues.

There are three kinds of people in this country. The first don’t buy ammo. We won’t give them a name. The second do buy ammo. We call them “Americans.” The third buy ammo from Widener’s. We call them “True Americans.”

    Which one are you?

If you’re a True American, then you’ll love Hornady’s American Gunner 223 Rem ammunition. It’s reliable as all get out in all sorts of firearms. It’s accurate to boot, because it’s loaded with Hornady’s premium 55 grain hollow point projectiles!

Now, don’t fire this ammo’s HP bullets expecting them to expand after striking a threat or a game animal. They only have nose cavities because their cores were created when Hornady injected liquid lead into their jackets. That process creates uniform and balanced cores, which is why this ammo’s bullets remain so stable in flight.

Hornady recorded this round’s 3,240 fps muzzle velocity and 0.254 G1 ballistic coefficient with a 24” barrel. By their measure, the bullet will clear a 200-yard zero at a velocity of 2,403 fps, and then proceed to drop to -7.6” at 300.

Each American Gunner cartridge features a brand new brass case. A perfect pick for any kind of handloading project you’re cooking up!

This 223 Rem cartridge is an exceptional choice for the AR-15 you keep for hunting or home defense. Its relatively heavy 75 grain projectile not only better resists the influence of wind drift, but possesses greater mass to assist with deep penetration. The bullet’s jacket is electrochemically formed and fused to its core, so it is not only remarkably balanced to ensure better accuracy, but nearly incapable of peeling away during penetration so that the bullet can retain the weight needed to burrow deeply into its target.

This round’s is a soft point bullet. Its nose profile is conducive to smooth feeding in a semi-automatic weapon, yet its exposed core unleashes dramatic expansion accompanied by tumbling to create a broad wound channel in addition to a deep one. This round also includes a nickel plated brass casing, at once able to facilitate feeding in a semi-automatic while fighting against gradual corrosion. Varmints hate these rounds, as do home intruders -- but our customers love them!

These .223 Remington rounds from Federal's American Eagle line represent some of the highest quality available before stepping into the premium price pool. Each cartridge is assembled using a reloadable brass casing fitted with a non-corrosive Boxer primer and complimented by primer pocket sealant which guards against moisture.

The rounds are topped by 62 grain full metal jacket projectiles with boat tails (FMJ-BT) which reduce in-flight drag for increased range and precision. 62 grains is a common weight for the caliber, especially in its 5.56mm NATO configuration, and is amply supported by endless amounts of ballistic software, sight sets, and proven zeroing methods. In addition, each casing is crimped to each bullets' toothed cannelure in order to prevent projectile setback which can spoil accuracy at best and induce a misfire or malfunction at worst.

Hornady is one of America’s leading bullet manufacturers, and they load ammunition with the same love and care that they spend on each and every projectile. Their BLACK series 5.56x45 ammunition makes the perfect companion during any range day, as it’s loaded with the high-quality components and tight specs any rifle needs in order to do its best work.

Hornady loads this ammo so you can have the same recoil and trajectory that the U.S. Army’s M855 cartridge would have provided – without the magnetic bullet. Cut Hornady’s 62 grain FMJ in half and you’ll find a lead core, copper alloy, and no steel penetrator insert. The non-expanding FMJ’s mid-jacket cannelure effectively prevents setback in the magazine that could have interrupted feeding or thrown off seating depth.

BLACK ammo is loaded with reloadable brass cases. Its non-corrosive Boxer primers are sealed for added longevity in storage, and its propellant is consistently loaded to deliver a 3,060 fps muzzle velocity (20” test barrel), just like the M855.

Cats have been heavily involved in varmint hunting for eons, and to date not one has paid a cent to engage in the pastime. Until humans develop night vision, retractable claws, and the ability to silently climb trees, we’ll likely have to rely on firearms to hunt varmints -- but that doesn’t mean we should have to turn our pockets inside out just to do so. This is the theory behind Federal’s Power-Shok line of ammunition: That you needn’t pay big prices to get big results out of your rifle.

This 223 Rem cartridge features a 55 grain jacketed soft point projectile. The bullet’s jacket prevents rapid bore fouling, and further facilitates reliable penetration through prairie dog mound and coyote hide alike. During penetration the bullet’s soft core, which is exposed at its tip, will let it warp to create a wide and lethal wound channel within game, killing them quickly. This round’s brass casing is fresh out of the factory, and in spite of its agreeable price tag is strong enough for multiple reloads.

The .223 Rem has been around since 1964 and has become one of the most popular rounds in the world. With its high velocity, low recoil, and light weight, the .223 Rem is great for several shooting applications including hunting, range training and competition shooting.

Since 1922, Federal has been manufacturing some of the best ammo in America. Headquartered in Anoka, Minnesota, all of Federal's ammunition is loaded in the USA.

These Power Shok rounds feature 64 grain soft point projectiles that are designed to deliver controlled, reliable expansion for medium game hunting. Each bullet is pressed into a boxer primed brass case that can be reloaded. Firing at 3050 feet per second, these rounds sacrifice a little velocity for more consistent trajectories and better energy transfer on target.

This 5.56x45 cartridge is from Hornady’s Frontier line of ammunition, and was manufactured at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant to provide cost-effective but still admirable performance out of any rifle you could chamber it in. Its 75 grain projectile provides match grade accuracy thanks in large part to its boat tail design, which reduces the amount of turbulence it leaves in its wake during flight to flatten its trajectory and permit it to retain a greater part of its velocity after having traveled great distances. This bullet further sports a narrow hollow point meplat to improve its resistance to wind deflection.

Given its place of manufacture, this round features military grade components to complement its bullet’s high level performance. Its factory fresh brass casing is very durable with an annealed neck and shoulder, and able to withstand being reloaded multiple times. Its Boxer primer is extremely sensitive and non-corrosive, and its powder burns without producing harmful residues as well.

The American frontier is gone, but Hornady Frontier keeps going strong! This is the 223 Rem ammo you want to chamber when accuracy is key – grouping tight shots through paper, or landing a single bullet clean between a gopher’s peepers.

Hornady utilizes the industry’s most advanced loading equipment and protocol when they piece together a Frontier load. This American-made ammo’s brass cases are military-grade, and you can see by their annealing that they’re poised to reload several times. This ammo’s primers are also military-grade, which promotes consistent ballistics along with its uniform propellant charges and bullet weights.

Each bullet is Hornady’s accurate BTHP Match. It features its manufacturer’s Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket and a form-fitted swaged lead core, both of which enhance in-flight stability to ensure the meplat is always pointed at its target. The BTHP Match’s secant ogive profile, boat tail and narrow hollow point meplat all decrease in-flight drag to flatten trajectory. Zero in at 200 yards and you can expect only 7.5” of bullet drop at 300!

The BTHP Match’s hollow point doesn’t affect terminal ballistics by creating expansion. The impact of a 68 grain bullet alone ought to take care of most varmint hunting and self-defense applications, though.

    Good Quality and Great Service

After spending a couple of hours looking for a decent price on 68 grain .223 BTHP ammo that was in stock, I finally found Widener's site, and they actually had it in stock. This ammo is pricy everywhere, but Widener's had it available for about a nickel per round below the next best price. I immediately placed an order, and the shipment showed up two days before I expected it. I will definitely look forward to looking to Widener's when I've saved up enough money for another purchase.

The American Frontier no longer exists, but Hornady Frontier is alive and well. We’ve got a bunch of it in our warehouse, as a matter of fact, and it’s ready for action whether you’ve got long-distance shooting, varmint detail or home defense in your plans!

This 5.56x45 cartridge is designed to turn any AR-15 into a capable sniper rifle. It’s furnished with a heavyweight 68 grain bullet. It’ll stabilize best out of a rifle with a 1:8 barrel twist, but a little faster or slower twist will be okay as well. As a boat tail hollow point this bullet features a ballistically efficient profile and balanced, uniformly distributed lead core. It won’t expand inside of its target, but it’s certain to get there courtesy of its match grade accuracy.

Frontier ammo is non-corrosive, nonmagnetic, and made in America. This ammo’s military-grade brass cases are consistently drawn and chambered to help them reliably weave in and out of a chamber, and you can rest assured they’re good for handloading.

We haven’t seen it ourselves, but we’re sure your AR build rocks. A chrome moly charging handle. A jewel-encrusted trigger guard. A barrel that was personally signed by Ronnie Van Zant. The ultimate piece of freedom hardware!

But no matter how much you upgrade your AR, it just can’t exhibit its very best accuracy unless it’s running the right ammo. Whether you’re trying to group shots with laser precision or line up long, beautiful parabolas, we’re confident you’ll love PMC X-TAC Match.

This cartridge hails from South Korea, but its bullet was made in Missouri by Sierra. It is the highly acclaimed MatchKing: an open tip match with a razor-thin super-concentric copper jacket that breeds accuracy and a form-fitted lead core that does the same. The 77 grain bullet will stabilize best out of a 1:6", 1:7" or 1:8" twist barrel, and its 2,790 fps muzzle velocity and 0.372 G1 BC are both the products of a 20” barrel.

Virgin reloadable brass. Trusty noncorrosive Boxers. Surprisingly fast shipping. Everything your 223 match ammo should have!

You are the mighty AR-15 varmint hunter. Groundhogs and prairie dogs want to avoid you, but everyone else wants to be you. A hero like you would never stoop so low as to fire inferior ammo during his all-important mission. That’s why you select Sierra Prairie Enemy.

This 223 Rem cartridge features its manufacturer’s own 55 grain BlitzKing. Here you have a balanced, streamlined bullet which puts its 3,215 fps muzzle velocity to full use so it can boast a high G7 ballistic coefficient of 0.127. Such a bullet needn’t rise even five inches on its way to a 300 yard target, and it still packs over 300 ft lbs of killing energy at 500 yards!

This boat tail bullet’s polymer tip doesn’t just center and streamline its meplat, however. That acetyl resin spear rams inward as it penetrates a varmint’s flesh to commence absolute disruption of its thin copper jacket. The BlitzKrieg thus manages to nearly instantly dump all of its energy within its waiting target – a truly commanding kill.

Sierra loads their Prairie Enemy ammo with the same attention to detail they’d engage for any of their match rounds. Each round’s primer, propellant charge, and brass case are standardized to promote reliable ballistic performance.

A short-barreled rifle (SBR) is an excellent tool for personal defense. But if your barrel measures between 10.5” and 11.5”, then you would be well advised to select ammo which is specially intended for it.

Hornady’s BLACK series 5.56x45 ammo is loaded with the 75 grain InterLock HD SBR. It excels at initiating expansion flowing low-velocity impact courtesy of its exposed supple lead tip and grooved, tapered jacket. It also has the durability it needs to defeat a wide variety of common barriers thanks to its cannelure and InterLock ring, which doubly anchor its jacket and core together. Hornady designed the InterLock HD SBR to excel at the FBI test protocol for self-defense ammo. They succeeded.

This ammo’s powder is similarly engineered to supply optimal functionality in SBRs. It minimizes blinding muzzle flash, softens report to an impressive degree, produces extremely little fouling, and does not overheat a suppressor. Hornady’s best brass cases feed without hesitation, and their Boxer primers are intensely reliable.

Hornady also recommends this ammo for medium game. A great choice for a midnight boar bonanza!

No varmint knows what fate awaits it after death. But once it enters your crosshairs, it’s due to find out very shortly. If you’d like one of the better 223 Rem solutions to varmint-related problems, then Nosler Varmageddon series ammunition will see you there.

This cartridge is loaded with Nosler’s own 55 grain flat base tipped bullet. Its 3,100 fps muzzle velocity and respectable 0.260 G1 ballistic coefficient translate to an impressively flat trajectory which still carries over 250 ft lbs of energy at 500 yards – a cannon ball, as far as any burrowing critter is concerned.

The FB tipped bullet’s flat base provides a perfectly circular surface for propellant gasses to exert their energy against, which in turn provides bench-rest accuracy. On impact the bullet’s polymer tip pushes inward to violently force apart its copper-alloy jacket and lead-alloy core, so you can count on calamitous terminal expansion to make instant work of your little quarry.

Nosler loads fine ammunition in Bend, OR. Even a cursory inspection of their ammo’s premium brass cases, sensitive Boxer primers and uniform bullets should assure you that you got just the right stuff for precision varmint whacking.

You may find that your AR-15 is a very handy thing to have around the house one day -- but only if it’s loaded with something capable of making bad guys go away. For that you need this 223 Rem cartridge by Speer. Its 75 grain bullet is accurate not only because of its considerable heft, but also its jacket. The Gold Dot bullet’s jacket is formed around its alloyed lead core electrochemically, so it boasts exact tolerances for great accuracy. Because the Gold Dot jacket is so closely wound to its core, this bullet is capable of retaining very nearly all of its weight as it expands widely during penetration.

This round’s bullet is optimized for smooth feeding in a magazine-fed weapon. Its new brass casing is additionally nickel plated for less friction during feeding and extraction, as well as greater resistance to corrosion that may have compromised sensitive components. All in all, a versatile cartridge for home defense.

Turn your AR-15, Mini-14, or other .223 Rem/5.56 NATO rifle into a fearsome varmint exterminator with this .223 Remington ammo from Hornady's Varmint Express series. These cartridges are loaded with V-MAX hollow point bullets with an aerodynamic polymer tip. V-MAX projectiles are designed to fragment rapidly to exterminate groundhogs, nutria, coyotes, and other pest animals.

Each cartridge in this bulk priced case of 200 fires a 55-grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of 3,240 feet per second. This results in trajectories similar to M193 mil-spec ball; for a varmint load, this ammo fires a relatively heavy bullet suitable for larger targets. The ballistic similarities between this ammo and common range loads makes for easy transitions between target shooting and hunting applications.

Hornady ammunition is produced in Grand Island, Nebraska using reloadable brass and non-corrosive primers. Originally founded in the 1940s as a manufacturer of high-end bullets, Hornady branched out into loaded ammo in the 1980s and offers products for defense, hunting, and competition use.

You’re not messing around. You’re going to prove that “effective range” is merely a concept by covering insane distances with your 223 Rem rifle – and Hornady Superformance is precisely the 223 Rem ammo you need to do it!

This cartridge is loaded with a big boy 75 grain projectile. That extra mass equals greater inertia, ergo higher resistance to wind deflection hundreds of yards downrange. As a hollow point boat tail, the bullet possesses the form-fitted lead core it needs to exhibit formidable rotational stability and the tapered base that helps to conserve momentum.

Whereas your run of the mill 223 round’s 55gr FMJ achieves a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.243, this round’s tack driver of a 75gr HPBT has a G1 BC of 0.395. In other words, its trajectory will peak at about 5.23” before it reaches a 300-yard bullseye (assuming your rifle has a 24” barrel, which is the test barrel length Hornady used to record this round’s 2,930 fps muzzle velocity, and your sights are set 1.5” high).

Hornady’s Superformance Match series ammo achieves a muzzle velocity that’s about 200 fps higher – without producing more unwanted recoil, muzzle blast, fouling or chamber pressure in the process. This ammo hails from Nebraska, where Hornady loaded it with their highest-quality reloadable brass cases and primers.

Please note: Despite its appearance, the HPBT will not deliver terminal expansion. It is solely designed for accuracy.

Black Hills produces some of the best ammunition in the world, and this .223 Remington load is no exception. Designed for varmint extermination with .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO rifles such as AR-15s, this ammo features the Hornady V-MAX bullet. V-MAX projectiles consist of a hollow point with a polymer tip that improves aerodynamics and initiates expansion for rapid fragmentation.

Each cartridge in this box of 50 fires a 50 grain version of the V-MAX at a muzzle velocity of 3,300 feet per second. The use of a relatively heavy bullet for a varmint load makes this ammo produce external ballistics somewhat similar (though not quite identical) to those of M193 ball. The heavier bullet also increases penetration for improved results against larger pest animals or predators such as coyotes.

BHA of Rapid City, South Dakota is a renowned manufacturer of ammo for both military and civilian use. Their products are constructed using non corrosive Boxer primers and reloadable brass cases.

Do you want to prove that you have the most accurate 223 Rem rifle on the planet? Then you’re going to need the right ammunition to make your case. Winchester’s Match series ammo is engineered to deliver the outstanding precision you need to start making people wonder whether you’re cheating physics.

This cartridge’s hollow point boat tail bullet is made by Sierra. It is the MatchKing, aka the bullet that has won more competitive target shooting events than all other manufacturers’ bullets combined.

The MatchKing begins as a thin copper jacket, which doesn’t deviate in concentricity by any more or less than 0.0003”. The opening in the MatchKing’s tip exists because the bullet’s lead was poured into place while it was molten, subsequently hardening to create an extremely uniform and voidless core. (The MatchKing’s nose cavity is not designed to initiate terminal expansion; it is not a hunting or self-defense bullet, and exhibits comparable terminal ballistics to an FMJ.) The MatchKing’s boat tail serves to minimize the bullet’s in-flight drag and increase its ballistic coefficient.

And this round’s ballistic coefficient is indeed high for a 223 Rem: G1 0.302, G1 0.152. The 69 grain HPBT should stay supersonic until approximately 780 yards, and its trajectory should rise by approximately 3.15” before it plows into a 200-yard bullseye. (Winchester recommends firing this match grade 223 ammunition through a 1:7” to 1:9” barrel for optimal accuracy.)

Very nice .223 level heavy bullet load

Varmints may be troublesome – but they’re not stupid. If you shoot one with an inferior bullet he’s going to use his dying breaths to make fun of you. Hunt varmints with extreme accuracy and commanding terminal performance with Sierra’s Prairie Enemy ammo instead!

This 223 Rem round delivers the awesome accuracy of Sierra’s BlitzKing. It is a streamlined bullet with a sloping boat tail base and piercing polymer tip, able to shrug off drag as it retains well over half of its starting velocity at the 400 yard mark. When its tip connects with a varmit, the BlitzKing’s thin-walled jacket instantly ruptures outward to overwhelm that target with disastrous fragmentation! Picture the accuracy of a MatchKing with the terminal effect of a firecracker, and you have a good grasp on what the BlitzKing has to offer.

Sierra carefully seats their varmint buster in a freshly minted brass case. The case’s uniform wall thickness and strong brass construction both lend themselves to intensely reliable performance. This round’s non-corrosive primer and clean burning propellant create a steady chamber pressure while reducing internal fouling.

This 200-round case of 5.56mm NATO ammunition is a great purchase for competitive match use or for testing out a new high-class build from Desert Tech or LaRue Tactical. Each round utilizes a 75-grain hollow point boat tail (HPBT) projectile which exhibits superb accuracy due to its measured internal balance, consistent outer dimensions, and aerodynamic shape. In addition, a toothed cannelure keeps the heavyweight bullet firmly seated within its crimp so that recoil vibrations don't upset final shot placement.

The reloadable brass casing of each cartridge is filled with a potent charge with powder, like all Superformance rounds, which produces breathtaking muzzle velocity for flatter shooting out to greater distances. This propellant accepts a spark from a non-corrosive Boxer primer which is accompanied by sealant that prevents moisture from ruining its ignition quality. Hornady's projectiles and finished ammo are supported by expertise that dates back all the way to 1949.

Hornady Superformance ammunition leverages advances in propellant technology to produce high-velocity loads that don't increase barrel wear or fouling. This higher velocity is a particularly useful advance for varmint loads, which depend on rapid fragmentation for their terminal effectiveness.

Each .223 Remington cartridge in this 20-round box fires a 53 grain polymer-tipped V-MAX hollow point bullet at a 3,465 feet per second.

Hornady ammo is made in Grand Island, Nebraska using non-corrosive primers and reloadable brass cases.

Barnes Precision Match ammunition is here to treat you to some of the best accuracy you’ve ever witnessed! This 223 Rem cartridge features the Match Burner – a 77 grain open tip match boat tail projectile that is designed for competitive shooting events!

First things first: an OTM bullet is not intended for hunting or home defense, simply because its hollow point nose cavity isn’t engineered for terminal expansion. The OTM’s meplat has a narrow aperture because liquid lead was poured through it – hence the bullet’s voidless, balanced, and rearward-situated core. The bullet’s narrow tip, tapered tail, and sleek, thin jacket are all in the service of minimizing drag, increasing downrange momentum, and enhancing precision. Its massive 77 grain weight gives the bullet greater resistance to wind drift as well (Barnes recommends a barrel twist of 1:8” or faster for this ammo).

This round has a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.349. Many variables will determine exactly which trajectory the bullet follows, but you can realistically expect around -9.57” drop at 300 yards when you set your rifle’s 1.5” high sights on a 200-yard zero.

Barnes loads this ammo in Utah with match primers, fastidiously measured propellant charges, and new brass cases that belong at a reloading press once they have been emancipated from their bullets.

Barnes is highly regarded for the quality of their solid copper bullets – but the old Utahan company certainly knows how to make a great traditional lead-core bullet as well. For proof of that you need look no further than this Precision Match series 5.56x45 ammunition, which features the Match Burner open tip match boat tail projectile!

This round’s OTM BT is a big boy at 69 grains. It’ll supply you with a lower muzzle velocity of 2,900 fps, but that pays off in the form of superior downrange momentum – precisely the property which gives a bullet greater immunity to wind drift. The OTM BT’s match jacket, tapered tail, form-fitted lead core and hypodermic needle-like tip give the bullet the balance and sleek profile it requires to exhibit a 0.330 ballistic coefficient. That translates to 300-yard trajectory which pinnacles at 6.4”, as well as supersonic velocity until approximately 850 yards.

You may already know this, but the OTM BT is unsuitable for hunting game larger than varmints. The bullet may technically have a nose cavity, although that feature is not designed to initiate terminal expansion at any velocity. As such the OTM BT’s terminal ballistics are pretty much identical to an FMJ’s.

Match-grade primers, expertly loaded propellant and top-end reloadable brass cases complete Barnes’ awesomely accurate Match Burner bullets. Order a box or five and prepare to witness your 5.56 rifle’s true potential!
