    Manufacturer SKU 35528B

Hornady Action Pistol (HAP) bullets are a direct response to competitive shooters buying up XTP projectiles for their reloading needs. By comparison to XTPs, the HAP design is less expensive and not designed to expand, but retains the hollow cavity, longer body, and immaculate jacket and lead core quality that match shooters have come to appreciate. That makes these .355 inch diameter bullets a smart choice for custom handloads that will be used in IDPA, USPSA, IPSC, or just practice.

Each projectile weighs in at 115 grains and has a copper-jacketed profile that is appropriate for high-velocity loads. The sleek, slanted ogive feeds excellently while the core and jacket exhibit a high level of uniformity in their dimensions and density. This balance will contribute to more accurate loads once your cartridges are complete. Hornady has been around since 1949 and makes some of the most unique, sought-after projectiles in the United States.

Used for Bullseye with 9mm pistols and they are accurate

In bulk (3000) the price is good for use in accuracy competitions. Wideners has had best price. Use Berry 115 HB for practice.

Review by James Smith (Posted on 5/21/17)

    WoW!

I'm an accuracy nut, an 82-year-old accuracy nut. NRA Classified Lifetime master, Aw the good old days!

After switching from 1911's to Glock for CCDW & Home defense I became obsessed with the idea of getting my Glock’s to shoot like my custom 1911 target guns.

So, to make a long story short, using the 115 gr. Hornady HAP bullets and shooting from my ransom rest at 25 yards I can now get consistent 5 shot groups less than 2 inches at 25 yards, and 10 shot groups frequently 2 inches, or less at the same distance.

They are listed as a target bullet but shooting them and FMJ bullets into soft dirt, and mud 10 to 15 yards they do expand and the size of impact holes are noticeable larger with the HAP bullet.

Reliability in feeding? I had to work with the overall length a while, but this is my 3rd case of these and have not had a single failure to function since the first 200 rounds while working out what the overall length my guns liked.

Hornady 115 gr. HAP, That’s my bullet for 9mm.

Delivering outstanding speed and superior firepower, the .45 ACP (for Automatic Colt Pistol) has been a leading cartridge for law enforcement and self defense since it was first released in 1904. Many gun owners go through hundreds or even thousands of .45 ACP rounds in a single trip to the gun range, so the need for affordable, consistent ammunition is high.

    Too soft to seat accurately

I normally load XTP's but I got some of these for training. The lead is so soft that the nose deforms when seating into a properly expanded case, but only if I didn't try to taper crimp it with the seating die. Trying that squashed the bullet to the point it looked more like a donut than a bullet. I had to switch to a Lee factory crimp but most of the bullets still ended up deformed at the tip. I checked and the same setup did not deform XTPs in the least. In three decades of reloading I've never seen bullets this soft.

Each projectile in this box of 100 is .224" in diameter, weighs 55 grains and has a flat base design. These bullets have a sharp polymer tip that increases the ballistic coefficient and the V-MAX profile provides a high bearing surface for great in-flight stability. Each projectile has a swaged lead core with a small cavity under the polymer tip that promotes dramatic, rapid expansion.

Hornady uses sharp polymer tips to help increase the ballistic coefficient and provide expansion even at low velocities. These bullets have a flat base design to improve in-flight stability and provide long range accuracy.

    Excellent Bullet

I struggled to get a 1984 CVA percussion rifle to group anything. I tried over 30 combos with PRB but could not get a group. I really wanted a PRB rifle and this should have been it with a 1:60 ROT. I tried these Hornady PA Conicals and was able to put 5 shots through one ragged hole at 50 yards with 80 grains of Triple 7, 3F powder. Let your rifle tell you what it likes best.

    Good hog and deer medicine.

Excellent for use on hogs and deer in carbines with heavy loads of Lil'Gun or H110.

Review by Jeff Johnson (Posted on 12/3/17)

    Excellent heavy bullet

I loaded these in new .357 magnum cases with heavy charges weighed individually. The cartridge was accurate and the recoil noticeable from my 4 inch Python. These 180 grain bullets will likely be fine for the smallish central Texas deer. The bullet might be suitable for the myriad wild hogs. I certainly recommend this bullet.

Quality control is good, uniform bullets and weights.

These require a fairly high Velocity to function as desired, once these velocities are achieved they function well. They are accurate enough for a hunting round. I wouldn't suggest these if you're looking to shoot in any type of competition. Grouping half to three quarter of an inch at 50 Yards.

160 gr. FTX bullets for 30-30 lever action rifles

I had purchased these a few months back in hopes they would improve the preformance of my marlin 30-30 after reading some reviews. I first loaded some test rounds in several different charge weights with Varget powder and bench fired at 100 yards..The results was terrible shot groups. I then purchased a pound of Hodgdon Leverevolution powder since it was designed for the FTX bullets and lever action rifles. I loaded some FTX bullets in the min. and max. powder charge with two more test loads in between those loads. The best 100 yard shot group was 3 in. with the max. charge weight. The other three test loads were in the 6in. and 7 in. shot group range. All the shot groups were very disappointing. I had also loaded some test rounds with Rem. 170 gr. soft point bullets made for 30-30s using the Leverevoltion powder. I loaded 5 rounds with the max. charge weight and those were 2 in. shot groups. I had loaded five more rounds with one grain less of the powder. Those grouped around 3 inches. The leverevoltion powder does well with conventional round nose bullets in lever action from my tests and I plan on ordering a box of Sierra 30-30 bullets in the 170 and 150 gr. weights to further test with this powder. Altough the 160 gr. FTX bullets might work well in some lever actions they were a disappointment for me.After asking about them on a reloading forum I found out it wasn't just my Marlin 30-30 that didn't do well with them. As far as using them in my .308 handloads the crimping groove sits too high because they were made for the shorter 30-30 shell. These bullets were made for the 30-30 not the normal 30 cal. rifle. I also read where the copper jacket was designed for 30-30 bullet velocities so there is a chance they could fail with the higher .308 velocities. If you own a lever action 30-30 and want to try some I would suggest only buying one box until you know how well they will perform.
