22LR Ammo

22 long rifle ammo is an extremely popular, versatile, and cost-effective rimfire cartridge suitable for varmint and small game hunting as well as competition and casual target shooting.

.22LR cartridges typically come in two major varieties: subsonic "standard velocity" loads and supersonic "high velocity" loads. Standard velocity ammo typically fires a 40 grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of around 1,000 feet per second. "SV" ammo's avoidance of the sound barrier makes it ideal for suppressors and enhances close-range accuracy, an important benefit for match shooting. High velocity ammunition fires the same 40 grain bullet (or sometimes a lighter one) at a muzzle velocity of 1,200 feet per second and produces flatter trajectories and better terminal performance against game; it is also the preferred load for many semi-automatic firearms as it cycles their actions more reliably.

Most ammo manufacturers produce at least one .22 LR load; hollow points are obviously best suited for hunting, while basic lead nose bullets are used for target shooting. The bullets are typically plated with copper or covered in a variety of coatings to reduce lead fouling. Notable rimfire specialists include ELEY, which is a favorite of many competitive shooters, and CCI, which manufactures the famously reliable Mini-Mag as well as a wide variety of hunting and target shooting loads in every velocity and projectile category.

You spent Independence Day, 2026 eating burgers, drinking family-friendly beverages, and responsibly handling fireworks. All well and good. But did you pause and give thought to how your 22 LR rifles and pistols spent the big day? If you left them shuttered up in a closet, all alone, then shame on you.

Better make it up to them by ordering a 10-box flat of Federal Premium’s 250th Anniversary USA ammunition. This is Federal’s highly prized Champion series ammo – an economical way to get your plink on – packaged inside special star-spangled boxes!

Every true American appreciates supersonic 22 LR ammunition, such as this. A rifle barrel pushes the 36 grain bullet around 135 fps faster than the speed of sound, at which instant its cleared for a fast-and-flat trajectory downrange. Federal plates the target bullet in copper to slow down the rate of lead fouling, so your 10/22, Mk IV, G44, or what have you can pump accurate fire downrange without frequent cleanings.

Just because you're trying to bulk up on some .22 LR ammo doesn't mean you have to settle for cheap, garden variety rounds. These AutoMatch cartridges from Federal aim to supply shooters with match grade rimfire fun in mass quantities. That makes this 3,250 round bulk pack, consisting of ten separate 325 round bricks, ideal of long-term plinking storage, precision sight zeroing, competitive match use, and Appleseed event sponsorship. Federal Premium is an American company with a huge reputation for innovation across hunting, sporting, and defensive sections of ammunition. Their quality and consistency has been trusted for years by the U.S. public.

This .22 LR rounds use typical brass casings and lead round nose (LRN) bullets which can have an accuracy-increasing effect on match grade barrels after repeated use and minimal cleaning. The projectiles weigh in at 40 grains which is a typical heavy weight bullet used for matches due to its potential to reach farther distances and maintain a flatter relative trajectory after leaving the muzzle at 1,200 feet-per-second. Federal takes special measures to make sure that these rounds will cycle semi-automatic rifles and pistols like the Ruger 10/22 or Charger reliably.

Only downside is that it is dirty

Other than the fact that Remington Thunderbolt 22 LR rimfire ammo is the dirtiest ammo I've fired in my High Standard Sentinel Deluxe .22 revolver, it is good stuff. Why? Because it fits nicely into the cylinder, doesn't snag when I eject them, it's quite accurate up to the 25 yard distance that I've shot it, and it is the best smelling powder that I've shot in a long time (it reminds me of gunpowder from sixty years ago). So, other than being (honestly) 4-5 times dirtier than the three other brands of .22 ammo that I've shot in the recent past (and by the way those other brands have made many different problems for my revolver and have failed to fire far too often), it is really good ammo.

Inexpensive, reliable, and American-made, CCI Blazer ammo is the go-to range load for many shooters in both centerfire and rimfire varieties. This 5000-round case is sure to keep you busy for a while!

This particular load falls into the high velocity range, firing a 40 grain solid bullet at a muzzle velocity of 1,235 feet per second. Some semi-automatic firearms cycle more reliably with this ammo, though suppressed guns will experience a sonic "crack" as the bullet passes the sound barrier.

CCI ammunition has been manufactured in Lewiston, Idaho since the 1950s; the company is a division of Vista Outdoor, which also owns Speer, Federal, and many other notable shooting brands.

There’s no shame in running out of 22 LR ammunition. The only shame is not asking for help when you need it! And your dear old friends at Widener’s are always standing by to hook you up with the good stuff, like this 25 pound 3,200 round treasure trove of Minnesota-made ammo by Federal!

This cartridge’s bullet weighs in at 40 grains – perfectly standard, and capable of ripping out of a rifle at a velocity of 1,200 fps. That’ll prevent transonic destabilization from weakening accuracy until approximately 30 yards, and also create enough pressure to let a semi-automatic do its thing. The LRN delivers a predictable trajectory, although it will not end its performance with terminal expansion. It also isn’t copper plated, which makes it the budget-conscious shooter’s preferred solution to high-velocity shootin’!

Federal’s straight cases, sensitive primers and clean-igniting powder all do their jobs equally well. And so do we, because we ship fast as the blazes. You’ll be plinking with the best of them in no time!

Things we like about America: the people, the scenery, and the prevailing spirits of kindness and decency.

Things we don’t like about America: …on second thought, we won’t go there.

Let’s dwell on the positive and name one of our absolute favorite things about our country. It is the home of Federal Premium, which has punched out great ammunition since over 100 years ago.

But do you know what’s even older than Federal? That’s right – America, which celebrated its big 250th in 2026. That’s why Federal packaged this Champion series 22 LR ammunition in a special patriotic box!

This is fine supersonic ammunition for all things target shooting, plinking, and so on. Its 36 grain bullet is (A) copper plated for reduced fouling, and (B) a hollow point, albeit not one designed for terminal expansion. The lightweight bullet is planted in a strong, straight and true brass case, and backed by explosives that won’t excessively grime up your firearm.

What’s better than taping up a few targets and shredding them to ribbons with a couple hundred shots from a 22 LR? We can think of a few things, but we don’t offer them for sale here at Widener's Reloading and Shooting Supply. We sell 22 LR ammo by Blazer!

This target and plinking load features a 38 grain lead round nose. It’s on the lighter end of the spectrum for a 22 LR bullet, which ensures the fast muzzle velocity that a straight and level trajectory can’t do without. (That high a muzzle velocity also indicates that this ammo will cycle semi-autos.) You’d hardly be doing a varmint any favors if you were to shoot it with an LRN, but this bullet’s inability to follow up impact with terminal expansion does make it a little more suitable for shooting stationary targets than it does hunting.

Blazer’s consistent and accurate LRN bullets are neatly seated in precision drawn and rimmed brass cases, with CCI’s famously reliable primers to take care of ignition. This ammo comes 10 cartons to a case for greater convenience.

Has your 22 LR rifle or pistol been sitting in the corner, gathering dust and looking neglected for far too long? Give your little chipmunk blaster the gift of Remington’s 22 Golden Bullet ammunition – with 225 rounds to a single box so you can plink all day if you care to!

This makes good hunting ammo on the count of its bullet. At 36 grains it achieves a 1,280 fps muzzle velocity, perfect for the flat trajectory you want for dispatching varmints. The hollow point bullet will flatten out inside of a varmint as well, rendering a large wound cavity which no crow or squirrel is equipped to shrug off. The bullet is additionally plated with copper, so you can look forward to greater accuracy over the course of your hunt or target shooting time.

Remington’s versatile 22 LR ammo is non-corrosive and nonmagnetic, with uniform brass cases that help semi-autos, bolt-actions, revolvers and pumps operate efficiently. It’s (nearly) as good as gold!

It’s funny how the 22 LR, a cartridge that’s indisputably inappropriate for self-defense or hunting any sort of animal that’d make for a sizeable family dinner, has become the most popular in the world. We’d venture it’s its subtle report, negligible recoil, low cost, and overall enjoyability that have made it that way. If you’re as big a fan of the caliber as seemingly every other shooter on earth is, then you’ll be very happy to have this mountainous case of Remington Golden Bullet ammo tucked away in your home.

This cartridge’s 40 grain projectile is a CPRN. The copper, which gives the “Golden Bullet” its attractive color, does a splendid job of lessening the kind of fouling that would have quickly impacted a firearm’s accuracy. Its an exceptionally aerodynamic bullet which has no difficulty burrowing through light targets as well. For just how little these rounds cost, you’ll be able to shoot exactly as much as you’d care to -- all day if you’d like.

This 22 LR ammo by Blazer comes packaged in a cardboard milk carton. It won’t give you the calcium you need for strong bones, but it will give you plenty of target shooting pleasure as it effortlessly cycles through semi-automatic and all other types of firearms!

This round’s 38 grain projectile is just a little bit lighter than usual. It’s still loaded to a normal chamber pressure, so its muzzle velocity out of a rifle barrel is fast at 1,235 fps. That conveys the flat trajectory you need to pick off small targets at long range, as well as plenty of energy on impact in the event you’re whacking a small critter.

The lead round nose is the 22 LR’s simplest bullet. You’re not paying for any copper when you choose the LRN, and you’re not signing up for terminal expansion, either. This bullet’s all about consistent target-grade accuracy, and it feeds smoothly into any gun’s waiting chamber.

Blazer ammo is made by CCI in Lewiston, Idaho. It’s loaded with CCI’s famous sensitive primers and high-quality brass cases, and its clean-burning propellant won’t quickly foul up your barrel with carbon residue.

    Great Ammo

This is my favorite ammo for my .22's. I started using it many years ago and have never had a misfire or a jam in any of my .22's.
I've eaten a lot of squirrel using this ammo and highly recommend it for the range and for hunting.

    Range & Plinking

I haven't done much small game & varmint hunting lately, but continue to spend time at the range and plinking out away from town. The Golden Bullet has never given me any problems and I appreciate its general online availability through Widener's. That said, I long for the days I could walk into my local outdoor or hardware store and pick up as many bricks of .22LR as I wanted for 1/4 - 1/3 the price I pay now.

We only sell this ammo to kings. You? You can order as many cases as you like.

CCI was founded in Idaho in 1951 and today stands as America’s most reputable manufacturer that specializes in rimfire-primed ammunition. Mini-Mag is CCI’s first and best-selling line of 22 LR. You’ll appreciate why before you’ve finished firing your first of ten 300-round boxes.

This round is loaded with the versatile copper-plated hollow point projectile. Its thin copper exterior enables the bullet to feed smoothly without the need for waxy lubricant, thus promoting cleaner performance in semi-automatic firearms. This is a high-velocity round thanks to its relatively lighter 36 grain projectile. Its 1,260 fps muzzle velocity will provide enough juice to reliably cycle a magazine-fed pistol or rifle. If the little hollow point lands on its target with enough momentum, it will widen out and kill the bejeezus out of a small game animal.

When you fire this ammo out of a rifle, its 0.125 G1 ballistic coefficient will prevent transonic destabilization until approximately 42 yards. Expect steady ballistic performance and consistent accuracy courtesy of CCI’s highly standardized primers and powder charges!

This .22 Long Rifle ammo from Federal's Game-Shok series is a dependable, clean-shooting choice for both target shooting and small game hunting. These cartridges can be used in both manual and semi-automatic pistols and rifles.

Each cartridge in this 500 round "brick" fires a 40-grain copper plated solid bullet at a muzzle velocity of 1,240 feet per second. This is "high velocity" ammo which produces good medium-range performance and terminal ballistics. This ammo can be fired through a suppressor to reduce the muzzle report somewhat but will generate some unavoidable noise as the bullet crosses the sound barrier. Against game, this ammo requires more careful shot placement than hollow point loads but is less destructive--a useful property for meat hunters.

Federal Game Shok ammo is loaded in Anoka, Minnesota. Federal is a division of Vista Outdoor, which produces a wide variety of products related to hunting, sport shooting, and defense.

Federal Gold Medal Match ammunition is a mainstay for many competitive shooters due to its strong accuracy. This subsonic load also works well in suppressed firearms, as it does not produce the "sonic crack" of high velocity ammunition.

Each round in this "brick" of 500 fires a 40 grain lead round nose bullet at a muzzle velocity of 1,080 feet per second.

Like other Federal commercial ammo, Gold Medal Match ammo is loaded at the company's longtime home in Anoka, Minnesota.

If we could only recommend one brand of 22 LR ammunition, it would probably have to be CCI. The Idahoan company has over seven decades’ experience making high-quality ammunition and ammo components, and their original Mini-Mag label is still their most popular.

Don’t let “Mini-Mag” trick you into thinking this is 22 WMR or some kind of strange 22 LR +P ammo. It’s loaded to produce a safe chamber pressure for any 22 LR firearm, regardless of its design or year of manufacture. Semi-automatic firearms especially like this ammo – not just because its copper-plated hollow point bullets minimize fouling and promote reliable feeding, but also because its 36 grain projectiles and 1,260 fps muzzle velocity mean that it should cycle any semi-auto just fine.

We love this ammo for regular plinking and serious target practice, but it’s a great choice for varmint hunting as well. Once the CPHP bullet’s nose cavity fills up with pressurized soft tissue, it will undergo the quick terminal expansion that inflicts greater damage to a small quarry. Order a box of 300 rounds – you won’t regret it!

    Could have been better

I bought a case of 5000 CCI 22lr. They come in plastic sleeves. I guess during shipping someone or several people dropped the box. Nearly all the plastic sleeves are broken at the bottom. I know this was most likely done during shipping but I think it could have been packaged better.

This 22 LR cartridge from CCI’s Stinger line of ammunition is crowned with a 32 grain projectile. A bullet that’s 20 percent lighter than what its caliber typically calls for means that this round delivers a whopping 1,640 fps muzzle velocity, and therefore an exceptionally flat trajectory that you can enjoy for knocking distant critters off of their mounds and branches. Its not only its extreme accuracy that makes this round so deadly to little critters -- its bullet possesses a unique teardrop cavity which enables it to widen to significantly greater than its original diameter during penetration.

This round’s casing is made of brass and to extremely high standards -- whatever platform you run it through, it’s going to work like it was made just for that firearm. CCI’s primer always provides reliable ignition, and their propellant is formulated to keep your weapon’s action and bore spotless for longer in between cleanings.

Affordability, low recoil, and a soft report -- the 22 LR already had its fair share of blessings before CCI laid their hands on it. But by increasing its muzzle velocity to a staggering rate of 1,640 fps, they gave it a trajectory so flat that even a spirit level wouldn’t do it justice. This 22 LR cartridge from the Stinger line of ammunition boasts accuracy so exceptional that squirrels and other vermin are lucky their brains aren’t big enough to permit them to comprehend just what they’re up against.

This round’s 32 grain bullet features a copper plating, so it will save your weapon’s bore from becoming rapidly fouled with lead residue, even further enhancing its accuracy. The bullet’s teardrop cavity further ensures the kind of expanding terminal performance you need to send critters packing. Add in a sure-fire rimfire primed brass casing, and you’ve got the just stuff you need to make that little rifle pack a serious punch.

A CCI Stinger round puts all its chips on velocity. Its 32 grain bullet is 20% lighter than average. Its resultant low inertia means that it hits a scorching fast 1,640 fps muzzle velocity. The bullet’s trajectory is flat as a fritter (0.084 G1 BC), and it stays supersonic until about 85 yards.

This hyper-velocity cartridge’s bullet is a copper-plated hollow point. It minimizes barrel fouling and spells certain death to any varmint that experiences its fast terminal expansion firsthand. This ammo’s brass cases are nickel-plated to ensure smoother feeding and extraction in semi-auto firearms, and CCI’s rimfire primers are supremely reliable.

Do you intend to carry a semi-automatic 22 LR pistol for self-defense? Then take a piece of advice: choose CCI ammunition. The Idahoan company is an absolute virtuoso in its field – namely, the production of rimfire-primed ammo – and supplies all the quality the defense of your life demands.

And it only gets better. Now that CCI has developed the Uppercut cartridge, you can have all that quality in a round specifically designed for positive functionality in a semi-auto pistol with a 2.5-4 inch barrel.

This round’s 32 grain bullet hits a deceptively high muzzle velocity: 950 fps, which is hot for the 4” test barrel CCI used to record it. In addition to cycling the pistol reliably, that muzzle velocity ensures the bullet reaches the target with at least 64 ft lbs of kinetic energy.

For reference, minimum striking energy of 260 ft lbs is advisable for defense. But thanks to its rugged copper jacket and skived nose cavity, the jacketed hollow point has its best chance at achieving sufficiently deep penetration and wide expansion.
