Federal: Premium Ammunition
The Federal Premium lineup of shotshells and cartridges may be the industry’s most diverse. Whether you’re a waterfowler, big-game hunter, weekend clay buster, carry for self-defense or addicted to long-range, the company has a load tailored for you.
Federal is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of sporting ammunition today. Shooters know its products are reliable and perform—facts that have allowed the company to thrive for nearly 100 years. The longevity and reputation seemed far from certain in the beginning, though.
There’s no denying the company was founded, and remains headquartered, in Anoka, MN, although opinions differ as to the people—or person—and precise date that should be cited. Federal Cartridge and Machine Company was established on Sept. 15, 1916, Federal Cartridge Company came in 1918 and Federal Cartridge Corporation followed in 1922.
Federal Ammunition History
Brothers Louis and Harry Sherman, who both had experience working in the ammo industry, were behind the initial 1916 effort. Their intent was to produce shotshells and bicycles. The owners hoped to land a lucrative military ammo contract during World War I, but two-wheelers remained on the schedule—a distraction that may have contributed to the company’s lack of success.
The first shotshell came off the assembly line in January 1917, but it did little to aid the fledgling business. Reorganization under the Federal Cartridge Company name came the next year. The Sherman brothers abandoned most of the management duties to the staff shortly thereafter and bankruptcy followed in 1920.
Rebirth Of Greatness
A group of local investors purchased the machinery and plant in 1922 and named the company Federal Cartridge Corporation. Charles L. Horn, a law degree-holding manager who had worked at American Ball and Shot in Minneapolis, was hired to resurrect the business. The company’s official history labels it a “refounding,” although that’s gross understatement considering Horn’s vision and ability to make it a reality.
The bicycle scheme was abandoned. Shotshell manufacturing was the sole focus, although part of Horn’s success was an ability to pedal the company’s wares in unusual places. In 1923 he built a distribution system that included grocery stores, barber shops and gas stations—an approach forced partly because the larger manufacturers had exclusive contracts with traditional retailers.
Sales were strong and Horn knew shotshells weren’t the only game in town. To expand the line, Federal purchased American Cartridge Company in 1924—at the time-based in Kansas City, MO—and moved production and machinery Minnesota. Rimfire cartridges were soon being sold under the Federal name.
History of Ammunition Innovation
By 1928 Federal’s ability to innovate became apparent. That year it offered loads with non-corrosive primers. Copper-coated .22 bullets followed in 1931 and the following year Federal offered high-velocity loads. In 1937 it brought a new bullet design to market, one aerodynamically tuned to reduce drag and improve accuracy—the company called it “Airlines.”
The concept is foreign to modern shooters, but shotshell were one made in a variety of colors—depending on manufacturer and supply—regardless of size, until 1960. That’s when Federal introduced a safety-enhancing color-code that has become industry standard. In 1973 the company was the first to introduce steel shot. Along the way the company has developed many of the innovations we rely on today, and most recently introduced the high-performance .224 Valkyrie in 2018—with a projectile that maintains supersonic speed past 1,300 yards.
The cutting-edge products coming out of the company’s research and development team may get the headlines, but the forward-thinking approach is standard-operating procedure in every department. Federal Premium’s history of helping non-profit organizations, for example, began in 1934. Despite the Great Depression and the fact that most profitable corporations ignored worthwhile causes, Federal defied the trend and became the first nationwide sponsor of 4-H camps. Since then it has helped the conservation efforts of the National Wild Turkey Federation, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club International and many others.
Introductions & Changes
Federal didn’t manufacture its first centerfire rifle and handgun cartridges until 1963. The familiar Federal Premium line hit the shelves in 1977, the same year Charles Horn retired. His son, William, took over the helm and spearheaded many of the efforts that kept Federal one of the industry’s foremost leaders.
In 1985 Federal was sold to a group of investors. It later passed through the hands of Blount, Lehman Brothers and finally found a home in defense-industry legend Alliant Techsystems (ATK).
Today it’s part of Vista Outdoor, the ATK sporting group of companies that was spun off into a separate entity in 2015. Better mission focus was one of the reasons for the amicable separation, and the added concentration on the needs of civilian shooters shows in Federal’s current lineup.
Federal Premium HST
Federal is deadly serious about the performance of its self-defense ammunition, and the dedication is on display in its relatively new HST line. The hollow-point bullet is designed to reduce or eliminate clogging as it passes through intermediate barriers, yet reliably expand on impact and retain weight. Overpenetration is minimized while fight-stopping power is retained. Add the nickel case, bullet profile tuned to avoid feeding problems with Federal’s unique primer and it makes for the kind reliable load needed for carry or home defense. Owners of .45 ACP, .40 S&W, 10 mm, .38 Spl. and .380 ACP handguns will want to take a close look at these loads.
Federal Premium Hydra-Shok
Hydra-Shok first hit the market in 1989, and it’s never surrendered its position as one of the premier self-defense cartridges. The unmistakable-looking bullet is a hollow-point, with a center post that aids in reliable expansion and weight retention. It’s available for a variety of handgun chamberings.
Federal Gold Medal Match
Combine Federal’s the near century of cartridge-tuning knowledge with the bullet-making wizardry at Sierra Bullets and you have the MatchKing. If you want to put those calipers to use on targets further than 100 yards—without hours behind a reloading press—look no further.
Federal Premium Sierra GameKing
Hunters need to deliver clean and ethical, one-shot stops, and these loads improve the ability to do so. Loaded with the Sierra Bullets line of soft-point GameKings, they deliver the exterior ballistics required to hit and target and all the expansion needed to fill that tag.
Federal Premium Prairie Storm
Federal was the first company to produce a shotshell designed for a specific hunting pursuit. It was turkey at first, but its Prairie Storm continues the tradition with 2 3/4- and 3-inch loads in different gauges, all tailored for upland bird hunters.
Federal American Eagle
And high-volume shooters aren’t ignored by Federal. Its pocketbook-friendly American Eagle line is available in a variety of different chamberings and loads. Whether your practicing or competing with a handgun or rifle, the odds are good you’ll find an American Eagle product to cover your needs.

Federal Fusion 30-30 150 Grain Fusion - 20 Rounds
$27.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 150 Grain Bullet Type Fusion Use Type hunting whitetail deer Casing Type Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 30-30 Winchester Manufacturer SKU F3030FS1 Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 29465097929 Cost Per Round $1.39 per round Using an updated Marlin 336 with a Midwest Industries M-LOK forend or a classic, old-school Winchester Model 94 for hunting doesn't mean you have to limit yourself to antique ammunition. These rimmed .30-30 Winchester cartridges from Federal's Fusion lineup represent proof of performance with flat-nosed bullets that are safe for use in lever-action rifles. The 150-grain Fusion projectile follows a soft point format with an exposed nose and strong copper jacket that has been artfully tapered to a sleek, aerodynamic shape. Drag resistance is again furthered but the bullet's boat tail taper which results in very tight groups.
As a Fusion load, the bullet's jacket is bonded to its lead core so the body remains intact during expansion. This allows the explosively expanding bullet to penetrate deeply into the vital areas of a deer or feral hog with no premature loss in momentum. Each bullet is crimped into a reloadable brass casing at its lightly imprinted cannelure, creating a lock that preserves accuracy despite jostling recoil vibrations. The casing has a non-corrosive Boxer primer installed at its base with a light amount of sealant which prevents moisture from ruining your perfect shot.

Federal HammerDown 30-30 Win 150 Grain Bonded SP – 20 Rounds
$27.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 150 Grain Bullet Type Bonded Soft Point Use Type hunting whitetail deer Casing Type Nickel-Plated Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 30-30 Winchester Manufacturer SKU LG30301 Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 604544658309 Cost Per Round $1.39 per round It’s fun to operate, with a classic design real Americans love. It’s lightweight and easy to quickly snap up to your shoulder. It’s a time-tested solution for taking deer at close to medium range. It could only be … a lever-action 30-30 Win rifle!
If you want to unload your lever gun at something with antlers, Federal HammerDown ammo is at your service. Henry Repeating Arms’ resident experts advised the Minnesotan manufacturer on how to make the perfect lever action round, complete with a low-friction nickel-plated brass case that is precision chamfered to promote smooth feeding in all rifles’ side gates and tubular mags.
This round’s 150 grain bullet packs a punch. Its bonded lead core and copper jacket stay firmly planted together as they plunge into sinewy muscle tissue – exhibiting precisely the high weight retention it needs in order to achieve effectively deep penetration. The soft point bullet is engineered to undergo devastatingly fast and wide terminal expansion after hitting a deer at any point within the 30-30’s effective range. And with approximately 1,450 ft lbs of striking energy at 100 yards, the deer will never know what got it! -
Federal Personal Defense HST 30 Super Carry 100 Grain JHP – 20 Rounds
$27.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 100 Grain Bullet Type Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Use Type home defense Casing Type Nickel-Plated Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 30 Super Carry Manufacturer SKU P30HST1S Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 604544669961 Cost Per Round $1.39 per round The concept behind the 30 Super Carry is genius: comparable accuracy and energy delivery to the 9mm, but in a narrower cartridge that takes up less space in a magazine. Of course, concept alone doesn’t make a self-defense cartridge great. It needs a resilient, fast-expanding bullet to reliably incapacitate a threat when your life is in imminent danger.
Federal’s Personal Defense HST series cartridge does it all. The 100 grain JHP does not have a bonded jacket. Nevertheless, it retains virtually all of its weight as it passes through thick fabric and other common barriers. That’s the key to the JHP’s consistent and effective penetration depth – an average of 15.5 inches after passing through heavy clothing.
This round’s JHP also expands to an average of 0.53 inches after passing through clothing, which means it increases in diameter by about 70 percent. That guarantees a debilitating wound channel accompanied by a significantly reduced risk of dangerous overpenetration. The JHP’s special nose cavity is engineered to avoid becoming gummed up with debris that could have impacted its ability to catalyze terminal expansion.
We would always rather have nickel-plated brass cases for our self-defense ammo. They make each round easier to spot in the chamber, promote more reliable feeding and extraction, and additionally protect against corrosion. Made in Minnesota! -

Federal’s Power-Shok label ammunition is designed to help you do both! If you’ve looked far and wide for 350 Legend ammo you can trust during any hunt for medium-size game, your search ends here!
This cartridge’s 180 grain bullet is a plain, simple and extremely effective soft point. The bullet’s incomplete copper alloy jacket promotes smooth feeding, reduced barrel fouling and consistent accuracy throughout the 350 Legend’s entire effective range. As soon as the flat nose soft point strikes soft tissue, its jacket begins beeling backward to produce a wide mushroom. The bullet is also resilient enough to forego significant fragmentation, so it reliably penetrates deeply.
These rounds’ straight, concentric and consistent brass cases supply smooth feeding and extraction before they become reloadable. Federal’s amped up quality assurance protocol has ensured that all 200 rounds in this case produce consistent recoil and ballistic performance, and they’re clean-shooting to boot! -

Federal Personal Defense HST 9mm +P 124 Grain JHP – 200 Rounds
$284.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 124 Grain Bullet Type Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Use Type home defense Casing Type Nickel-Plated Brass Quantity 200 Ammo Caliber 9mm Luger (9x19) Manufacturer SKU P9HST3S Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 50004544657459 Cost Per Round $1.42 per round Your personal safety demands nothing less than the best – and Federal Personal Defense HST is quite arguably the very best 9mm +P ammunition on the market. Make no mistake: this is the same stuff Federal sells to law enforcement agencies. Only the packaging is different!
This cartridge’s 124 grain jacketed hollow point is Federal’s own HST. The HST features a hollow point nose cavity that is designed to initiate expansion following penetration of several different barriers. The HST reliably expands in diameter by 50% after passing through tough safety glass! And because of its jacket (not bonded, but intensely tough nevertheless), the HST is capable of retaining over 90% of its weight after penetrating heavy fabric, sheet steel, drywall and plywood alike.
Each Personal Defense HST cartridge features a high-quality reloadable brass case with a high-performance primer and nickel plating to promote more reliable functionality in a semi-automatic. This ammo’s propellant is formulated to emit a duller muzzle flash – optimal if you wish to avoid becoming blinded by your own gunfire.
This is overpressure ammunition. Its 1,200 fps muzzle velocity (which was recorded with a 4” test barrel) ensures ~350 ft lbs of striking energy at 25 yards, but also produces too much chamber pressure for antique handguns to safely contain. Make certain your pistol is rated for +P before ordering this ammo! -

Federal Power-Shok 350 Legend 180 Grain SP – 20 Rounds
$28.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 180 Grain Bullet Type Soft-Point (SP) Use Type hunting whitetail deer Casing Type Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 350 Legend Manufacturer SKU 350LA Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 604544653403 Cost Per Round $1.44 per round Who needs a bottleneck when you’ve got the power of the 350 Legend on your side? Federal’s Minnesota-made Power-Shok ammunition is perfect for deer, indisputably effective on hogs and varmints, and not so extravagant that you’ll regret taking it to the rifle range.
This round’s bullet doesn’t have a fancy polymer tip. It is a soft point, with an exposed lead core that equates to wide and reliable terminal expansion at close- to medium-range. The bullet’s nonmagnetic gilding metal shell is tough enough to prevent significant core/jacket separation, so it conserves enough momentum to reach the heart or lungs, and it is concentric enough to ensure a predictable trajectory. The 180 grain SP reliably strikes its target with over 1,000 ft lbs of energy at ranges within 175 yards.
Federal has been at it for 100 years. In that time they have perfected the technology they need to mint smooth-cycling and reloadable brass cases, and their non-corrosive Boxer primers and clean-burning propellant charges work in tandem to produce a stable 2,100 fps muzzle velocity. -

Federal Power-Shok 308 150 Grain SP - 20 Rounds
$29.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 150 Grain Bullet Type Soft-Point (SP) Use Type hunting boar, hunting whitetail deer Casing Type Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 308 Winchester (7.62X51) Manufacturer SKU 308A Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 29465084745 Cost Per Round $1.49 per round This .308 Winchester ammunition from Federal's Power-Shok series is a dependable hunting load used to take large quantities of deer around the country every season.
Each cartridge in this box of 20 fires a 150 grain soft point bullet at a muzzle velocity of 2,820 feet per second. A relatively simple and inexpensive design, the soft point delivers tried and true expansion for a quick clean kill. The expanded bullet tends to mushroom as a large piece instead of fragmenting like a hollow point, making it an excellent way to avoid damage to edible meat.
Federal Power-Shok ammunition is loaded in Anoka, Minnesota using non-corrosive Boxer primers and brass cases. -
Federal Power-Shok 22-250 Rem 55 Grain SP - 20 Rounds

As an incredibly fast round, this cartridge achieves extra damage due to the hydrostatic shock and with its amazing velocity, it can help you hit even the fastest varmints around your home.
Founded back in the 1920's, one of America's most prosperous periods, Federal has been manufacturing some of America's best ammunition for nearly a century. It doesn't matter if you are looking for something top of the line or just something to plink with, Federal has exactly what you need. These Federal Power-Shok rounds fire at 3650 feet per second and will take out any varmint you come across. Brass cased and boxer primed, these reloadable, 55 grain, soft point rounds are exactly what you need to get rid of those pesky creatures that ruin your property.

Federal Fusion 44 Mag 240 Grain Fusion SP - 20 Rounds
$29.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 240 Grain Bullet Type Fusion Use Type home defense, hunting whitetail deer Casing Type Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 44 Magnum Manufacturer SKU F44FS1 Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 29465098391 Cost Per Round $1.49 per round These fast-expanding .44 Magnum rounds from Federal are great for hunting deer with your lever-action Marlin 1894 or trusty K-frame revolver. As part of the Fusion line, each round utilizes a 240-grain soft point bullet with a bonded copper jacket which prevents separation from causing shallow, superficial wounds. A light divot in the exposed lead tip of the round alongside precise cuts in the copper jacket promote reliable, petaled expansion which creates a larger pocket in chest cavity for faster bleeding and shocking energy transfer.
This performance is intended to bring down a deer or similarly sized game animal with humane effectiveness while preventing the bullet from continuing through the body and into the field. The lighter 240-grain bullet is loaded to fly at 1,290 feet per second at the muzzle, producing manageable recoil for the shooter. Two light cannelures at the bullet's crimp and base point on its reloadable brass casing prevent displacement which could otherwise affect accuracy or ignition. Each casing is filled with clean-burning propellant which is ignited by a non-caustic Boxer primer.

Federal Personal Defense HST 9mm +P 124 Grain JHP – 20 Rounds
$29.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 124 Grain Bullet Type Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Use Type home defense Casing Type Nickel-Plated Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 9mm Luger (9x19) Manufacturer SKU P9HST3S Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 604544657456 Cost Per Round $1.49 per round New firearm owners often ask us to recommend the best ammunition for self-defense. We typically suggest a few – but when we have Federal Premium’s Personal Defense HST in stock, it always tops our list. This is exactly the same 9mm +P ammunition Federal supplies to law enforcement agencies; only its packaging is different.
This 9mm +P cartridge’s 124 grain jacketed hollow point bullet is designed to feed smoothly and exhibit superior accuracy, but that’s only the start of what makes it great for personal defense. Its nose cavity is engineered to resist getting blocked up with debris on impact. Its jacket and core are highly resilient, and resist fragmenting apart following high-velocity impact. That ensures the bullet remains able to penetrate deeply enough to effectively neutralize a threat.
As the JHP encounters resistance from soft tissue, it quickly expands. When it plunges into ballistic gelatin, it increases from its original 0.355” diameter to 0.870”; if the bullet must penetrate multiple layers of fabric before entering the gelatin, it still expands to a diameter of 0.610”.
This ammo is loaded in Minnesota with Federal’s highest-quality primers and propellant, as well as corrosion resistant and smooth-cycling nickel-plated brass cases. This is overpressure ammunition. Its heightened chamber pressure will produce a flatter trajectory and inflict greater damage to the target, but it will also damage a firearm that is not rated for +P. Please consult your firearm’s manual or manufacturer before ordering, or ask your friendly expert at Widener’s! -
Federal Hydra-Shok Deep 38 Special +P 130 Grain JHP – 20 Rounds
$29.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 130 Grain Bullet Type Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Use Type home defense, Subsonic Casing Type Nickel-Plated Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 38 Special Manufacturer SKU P38HSD1 Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 604544672794 Cost Per Round $1.49 per round Federal Premium Hydra-Shok Deep ammunition takes the time-tested performance of the Hydra-Shok projectile and makes it even more effective for self-defense applications. This 38 Special +P cartridge’s 130 grain jacketed hollow point features a sturdier center post and more robust core that promote deeper penetration – even if the bullet must pass through a barrier before arriving at the threat. And thanks to its aggressively notched jacket, the JHP also undergoes rapid and wide expansion which subdues the threat quickly.
This is overpressure ammunition. It’s loaded to a higher-than-standard chamber pressure, which means it can destroy a 38 Special revolver if it isn’t rated for +P. Take care to only fire this ammo in firearms that are compatible with +P ammunition. Consult your firearm’s manual or manufacturer if you are uncertain.
Federal’s Minnesota-made ammunition features highly reliable Boxer primers, specially formulated clean-burning propellant, and top-shelf brass cases. The cases’ nickel plating makes them more reflective, safer against corrosion, and lower-friction to facilitate feeding into and extraction from a revolver’s chambers. -
Federal Punch 44 Special 180 Grain JHP – 20 Rounds
$29.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 180 Grain Bullet Type Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Use Type home defense Casing Type Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 44 S&W Special Manufacturer SKU PD44SP1 Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 604544677546 Cost Per Round $1.49 per round Maybe the 44 Special would be more popular if one of the greatest Southern rock bands of all time were named after it. Who knows?
Fortunately, self-defense isn’t a popularity contest. It ultimately boils down to reliability, accuracy, terminal ballistics and marksmanship.
Federal Premium Punch ammo gives you three out of four of those fine things (the marksmanship is all on you). This ammo’s high-quality components include new brass cases, sealed Boxer primers, clean-burning smokeless, and Federal’s own Punch jacketed hollow point.
The 180 grain bullet clears a cylinder gap and 4” barrel at a rate of around 815 fps. Snub nose? Slower. Lever gun? Faster! But with a 4” barrel, you can reasonably expect to strike a nearby target with around 260 ft lbs of force. That’s pretty much the minimum average typically advised for defense. The Punch JHP doesn’t just strike, of course. It also expands, and penetrates to a suitable depth for its intended application: stopping the threat, fast. -

Federal Gold Medal 224 Valkyrie 90 Grain BTHP – 20 Rounds
$30.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 90 Grain Bullet Type Hollow-Point Boat Tail (HP-BT) Use Type match or precision shooting Casing Type Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 224 Valkyrie Manufacturer SKU GM224VLK1 Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 604544630275 Cost Per Round $1.54 per round This 224 Valkyrie cartridge from Federal’s Gold Medal line of ammunition sports a 90 grain Sierra MatchKing projectile. The MatchKing owes its superior accuracy in large part to its extremely thin jacket which is drawn to a virtually perfect consistency, as well as the high uniformity of its weight. The bullet’s hollow point has an extremely narrow meplat, which along with its boat tail design gives it a remarkably high ballistic coefficient. The result is a bullet with very little drag, great resistance to cross winds, a flat trajectory, and the ability to deliver superior momentum and energy even from great distances.
This round further offers a specially formulated propellant which both burns clean and delivers a consistent muzzle velocity of 2,700 fps, a benchrest quality Gold Medal primer, and a Federal brass casing which is both resistant for corrosion and fit for use at your reloading bench. If you’d like to see just how accurate the 224 Valkyrie can be, then this is the round to show you. -

$31.00Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 90 Grain Bullet Type Soft-Point (SP) Use Type hunting whitetail deer Casing Type Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 224 Valkyrie Manufacturer SKU F224VLKMSR1 Primer Type Boxer UPC Barcode 604544630305 Cost Per Round $1.55 per round This 224 Valkyrie cartridge from Federal’s Fusion MSR line of ammunition features the 90 grain Fusion soft point bullet. The bullet’s core is pressure formed to give it extremely uniform weight density, enabling it to keep a steady path en route to its target. Because the core is bonded on a molecular level to its jacket, the issue of core/jacket separation is rendered virtually moot. As the result this bullet produces a wide and deep wound channel which is certain to drop a whitetail right where it stands.
If you favor hunting for deer in the dark, then you will find value in this round’s propellant. It not only produces a low flash which will prevent you from becoming blinded after firing a shot, but is further optimized to deliver an exceedingly fast muzzle velocity from the average sized modular sniper rifle’s barrel. This round’s casing is made of reloadable brass, and its non-corrosive primer is perfectly compatible with a rifle that utilizes a free-floating firing pin. -

Federal Gold Medal CenterStrike 308 Win 168 Grain OTM – 20 Rounds
$31.85Product Type Ammo Manufacturer Federal Condition New Bullet Weight 168 Grain Bullet Type Open Tip Match Use Type match or precision shooting, plinking at the range Casing Type Brass Quantity 20 Ammo Caliber 308 Winchester (7.62X51) Manufacturer SKU GM308OTM1 Primer Type Boxer Magnetic No UPC Barcode 604544685152 Cost Per Round $1.59 per round We’re sure a heroic figure such as yourself is already surrounded by countless accolades – including more than a couple of gold medals. But you never stop seeking new ways to excel, which is why you’re so keen to keep improving your skill with your 308 Win rifle. That’s why you’ll love Gold Medal CenterStrike ammunition by Federal Premium, which supplies all the accuracy you need to hit the dead center of your bullseye over and over again!
This round’s open tip match bullet is designed to minimize drag and optimize in-flight stability. Its jacket isn’t just streamlined. It is also exceedingly thin, and drawn to a highly exacting standard for concentricity as well. The OTM’s lead core is similarly well balanced, which does even more to keep it stable in flight. If you were to fire the 0.450 G1 BC bullet at a 500 yard target, it would only drop -27.2” another 100 yards downrange. That’s an admirably flat trajectory for a 168 grain 308 Win bullet!
Federal’s Gold Medal primers supply the reliable ignition that their specially formulated propellant charges need in order to deliver their best results, and their first-rate brass cases won’t disappoint at the range or the reloading table. Word to the wise, though: the OTM can’t expand, and accordingly is poorly suited for hunting applications. -
