7.62x39 Ammo

7.62x39 ammo is an intermediate rifle cartridge closely associated with the famously reliable SKS and AK-47 rifles that use it, this caliber is one of the most popular in the world despite its replacement in Russia by the 5.45x39mm in the 1970s. The first gun chambered for this cartridge, however, was actually the RPD light machine gun.

7.62x39mm ammo fires a 122 or 123 grain full metal jacket bullet at about 2,300 feet per second. These specifications produce excellent results at close to medium range while generating manageable levels of recoil.

Most 7.62x39mm ammo available in the US is imported from Russia; brand names to look for include Tula, Wolf, and Barnaul's Bear series. All three of those manufacturers offer cheap bulk 7.62x39 ammo that'll have your AK asking for more. Today's Russian-produced rounds are typically non-corrosive but steel-cased and non-reloadable. Shooters looking for a brass-cased load should check out Fiocchi, PMC, or Prvi Partizan's offerings for sale which offer reloadable cases for precise loading at your convenience.

The government isn’t letting Russian-made ammo into the country nowadays. That hurts all the AK enthusiasts who are trying to limit their spending on ammo, but we’re sure that thought never occurred to the powers that be.

But here’s the neat thing: Russia isn’t the only country that makes steel-cased magnetic 7.62x39 ammo. Azerbaijan, a country we know nothing about, is also in on that action – and here is your chance to fire their ammo.

This ammo is loaded with 124 grain FMJs. Each bullet has a normal lead core. Instead of brass, its core is jacketed in bimetal: almost 100% steel, with a wafer thin copper exterior. The bullet’s case is similarly designed without copper. Instead of brass, it’s steel.

This ammo’s bimetal jackets will attract a magnet. It is banned from many ranges for that reason. This ammo’s cases are not reloadable. AKs are famous for liking steel cases, however, so there’s no great disadvantage to them if don’t handload. And while this ammo is loaded with Berdan primers, it is most assuredly noncorrosive.

Forget about silver. Give up on gold. Throw all your platinum bars in the trash right where they belong. For our money, the best metal you can invest in is lead – preferably in the form of 7.62x39 ammunition!

This is the budget-friendly steel-cased 7.62x39 ammunition all your friends have been telling you about. A steel case’s rigidity means that it permits more fouling to enter the firearm’s action, and it is also not able to be reloaded. But if you’re just trying to save a little moolah, then you’ll truly appreciate a case that doesn’t contain any pricey copper.

This round’s noncorrosive primer and clean-burning double base propellant spark up to accelerate its 123 grain projectile to a muzzle velocity of 2,362 fps. The full metal jacket bullet’s bi-metal jacket does contain steel and will attract a magnet, which only means some commercial ranges prohibit this ammo on their premises.

Sterling isn’t a Russian company. They are a Turkish company whose products are currently exported to more than 70 countries worldwide.

Pigman is a superhero who fights crime with the powers of squealing and bacon. Igman is a Bosnian ammo manufacturer that has been in the game since 1950. Don’t confuse the two!

Igman’s 7.62x39 ammunition is a step above what you’re accustomed to if you’ve only ever fired Wolf or Tula’s Russian-made ammo. Each round in this case of 56 boxes is decked out with a virgin brass case, which means you can expect overall cleaner performance. Better yet, Igman loads the Boxer primers brass-cased ammo needs in order to be reloaded! This new production ammo’s primers cannot deposit corrosive residue in your firearm’s barrel, and they’re sealed for added protection against humidity in storage.

If you are familiar with Wolf and Tula, then you know their bi-metal jacketed bullets contain steel, will attract a magnet, and are forbidden at many commercial ranges. Igman’s 123 grain full metal jacket bullets do not share this problem. These lead-core bullets’ jackets are made of tombac – a hard alloy of copper and zinc – which leaves them wholly incapable of attracting a magnet. Great for all ranges!

Azerbaijan! We know exactly three things about it:
    1. It is a Middle Eastern country
    2. It is where this 7.62x39 ammunition was made
    3. We will never be able to spell its name without looking it up

This ammunition was imported from Azerbaijan by Tela Impex – a Florida company that was founded by a decorated combat veteran with multiple war zone deployments. Safe to say he knows a thing or two about 7.62x39 ammo. It’s also safe to say that your AK-47 or SKS should fire this ammo just fine, because Tela Impex tested 50,000 rounds before ensuring that it is good enough for American shooters!

This ammo is loaded with steel cases (not reloadable), Berdan primers (not corrosive), and 124 grain full metal jackets. A bimetal jacket is almost entirely made of copper, though it has a copper-washed surface for better cosmetics. All of this is to say that this ammo’s bullets will attract a magnet, which is why it’s not welcome at all commercial ranges.

Want a great deal on 7.62x39 ammunition? Then you gotta ditch the brass cases and opt for steel ones instead!

But hold on a second. Isn’t steel-cased ammo incredibly hard to come by due to the Russian import ban? Thanks to MAXX Tech, it’s not! Their Not From Russia (NFR) line of 7.62x39 ammo is loaded with steel cases from Eastern Europe and 123 grain full metal jacket bullets from the USA, so it’s ready to rock in your AK or SKS!

This ammo’s bullets can’t attract a magnet. No steel – just nonferrous lead and brass – so you can fire to your heart’s content at ranges which have “magnetic” ammo bans in effect.

This ammo’s steel cases are polymer coated. It doesn’t immunize them against corrosion, but it does protect them, and polymer also reduces friction so as to promote more reliable feeding and ejection. This ammo’s noncorrosive Berdan primers are yet another reason why you can’t reload it. Just leave those cases on the ground and you’ll be all set!

Sterling ammunition was originally manufactured in England. Production next moved to Spain before finally settling in Turkey. Today the subsidiary of Turaç exports ammunition to dozens of countries around the world, many of which utilize it for national defense.

This 7.62x39 ammunition is perfect for high-volume target shooting thanks to its steel cases. You save a lot of money by avoiding brass, an alloy that is mostly composed of semi-precious copper, and AK-47s have zero issue cycling steel. The main drawback to steel cases is that they aren’t able to be reloaded, although that is hardly a shortcoming at all if you aren’t a handloader.

Each one of these Kalashnikov rounds is outfitted with a 123 grain full metal jacket projectile. The bullet has a solid lead core with a bi-metal jacket – it does contain steel, and it will attract a magnet. This new production ammo is also outfitted with noncorrosive primers, so you can clean your rifle just as you normally would once target practice has reached its natural conclusion.

This 7.62x39mm ammunition is one of only a few brass-cased loads available in this caliber. In addition to being highly reliable, these cartridges are useful if you plan to shoot your AK or SKS indoors where steel-cased ammo may not always be permitted due to its magnetic properties. Best of all, the brass can be reloaded!

Each cartridge in this box of 20 fires a 123 grain full metal jacket bullet at a muzzle velocity of 2,350 feet per second. This ammunition is loaded in South Korea and uses non-corrosive Boxer primers.

Poongsan, the maker of PMC ammo, is one of the largest suppliers of the South Korean military and produces all of its components in-house to maintain tight quality controls.
