IMR is one of the oldest smokeless powder brands and has considerable historical significance as a supplier of propellants to both the US and Allied militaries during both world wars, producing about 2.5 billion pounds of powder during WWII.
During the war, IMR established a plant in Valleyfield, Canada; this plant is now owned by General Dynamics and continues to produce propellants. Hodgdon is the US distributor for IMR powders.
