Not exactly. Much like firearms, there is a lot of disparity in the suppressor market. I\u2019ve fired so-so suppressors that are good if you are on a budget, and I\u2019ve used top-of-the-line options. Recently, I purchased the Dead Air Silencers Wolfman Suppressor, a versatile, modular option with a competitive price point and a stellar reputation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wolfman is rated for 9mm. It is one of my absolute favorite suppressors, bar none. The Wolfman checks all the boxes if you\u2019re looking for a rock-solid suppressor for your 9mm pistol or subgun. Here\u2019s my experience with the Wolfman from Dead Air Silencers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What Is the Dead Air Silencers Wolfman Suppressor?\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Dead Air Silencers calls it, the Wolfman is an \u201centirely new beast.\u201d The Dead Air engineering team set out to fine-tune the Wolf-9SD and created something far better. The modular, multi-caliber suppressor is specialized for pistol, light-duty rifle, and subgun use. The front cap can also accommodate a rubber wipe for added sound suppression.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A wipe is a consumable barrier the bullet travels through as it exits the suppressor. They are soft, circular, urethane, silicone, or neoprene pads. The wipe helps contain the gasses expelled from your suppressor and further reduces the sound of the first shot you fire.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/deadairsilencers.com\/silencers\/wolfman\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wolfman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It has a fully welded stainless steel construction, which helps maximize strength while keeping the weight down. It has a \u00bd-28 direct threat mount, so it should thread right onto most 9mm pistols and subguns with a threaded barrel. You can use it with any of the above calibers if you are within the energy rating and pressure specifications. However, I strongly recommend using it with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wideners.com\/blog\/what-is-subsonic-ammo\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">subsonic ammo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> only when equipping the Wolfman to a carbine or rifle. It is just over five inches in the short configuration and about 7.5 Inches in the longer configuration. The long configuration is much quieter, but the shorty setup provides plenty of sound dampening when firing subsonic <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wideners.com\/handgun\/9mm-ammo\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9mm rounds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Wipe-Compatible Front Cap<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some view wipes as an antiquated tool, while others enjoy the novelty of having a wipe-compatible front cap. I rarely use wipes, but it&#8217;s nice to have the option if I ever want to experiment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Interchangeable Front Caps<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wolfman has interchangeable caps. They are compatible with all R-Series accessories, including a flash hider and several different adapters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Lots of Mounting Options<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wolfman includes a \u00bd-28 direct thread mount. It is also compatible with all P-Series mounts, including the P-Series Xeno, 3-Lug, and KeyMicro. You\u2019ll need a mount to attach the Wolfman to a barrel with a different thread pitch. You can also invest in a mount to quickly connect\/disconnect the suppressor from your barrel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Versatility\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I did a lot of homework before buying a suppressor. I chose the Wolfman because of its modular design and versatility. While I primarily wanted to suppress my 9mm pistol and subgun, I also wanted the freedom to thread the suppressor onto my <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/9mmmagazines.com\/ar-15-magazine-test\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AR-15<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The suppressor has a lot to offer overall and is compatible with many different weapon systems. Thus far, I\u2019ve only tried it on my 9mm CZ P-10C, AR-15 chambered in 5.56, and a few 9mm subguns. I\u2019ve been thoroughly impressed with the Wolfman\u2019s performance on all these firearms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On a side note, Dead Air recommends using the Wolfman with the KeyMicro muzzle brake\/mount when firing rifle rounds. This setup helps disperse high-pressure gasses and protects the suppressor\u2019s blast baffle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Unboxing &amp; First Impressions<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ll start by saying that I love a good unboxing experience, especially when a company follows up the fun with a stellar product. The Dead Air Silencers Wolfman suppressor has superb packaging that looks great and offers plenty of protection. After seeing the suppressor&#8217;s packaging, I had zero concerns about damage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once I removed the packaging and thoroughly read the manual (yeah, right), I took the suppressor out of the protective foam insert and was immediately impressed by the design. It is lightweight but feels durable. The sleek design and user-friendly modular setup made it easy to get the suppressor range ready.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Performance &amp; Range Experience\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In my testing, I mounted the Wolfman on a 9mm pistol-caliber carbine. The suppressor&#8217;s performance was outstanding, providing significant noise reduction and a noticeable decrease in recoil. The ability to switch between the full-length and short configurations allowed me to balance sound suppression with maneuverability, depending on my preferences. The ability to transition between a longer suppressor for maximum noise reduction and a shorter version for enhanced maneuverability offers unparalleled flexibility. This feature is particularly advantageous for shooters who engage in both tactical training and home defense scenarios, where different configurations may be preferred.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plus, the modular design is just cool. Sometimes, I want to practice in my backyard, but I don\u2019t want to manage the extra length and weight of the long configuration. The short configuration provides adequate sound suppression and is a little easier to maneuver.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Is The Wolfman Suppressor Quiet?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Silencer Shop, the Wolfman reduces noise by 22.1 dB in the short configuration and l2.2 dB in the long configuration. They tested the suppressor on an AR-style 9mm pistol and used subsonic ammo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I noticed considerable noise reduction. I can best compare the muzzle noise to that of a CO2-powered pellet gun. The rounds were very quiet in the shorter configuration as well. The slight difference in sound dampening was barely noticeable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I also tried the suppressor with supersonic ammo. While these shots were slightly noisier, they were still plenty quiet enough to shoot without ear protection.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the suppressor\u2019s sound-dampening capabilities. I frequently target shoot in my backyard and can do so without disturbing any livestock roaming behind me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The Pros &amp; Cons: Dead Air Wolfman Suppressor\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wolfman is a great all-around suppressor, but I\u2019d be remiss if I didn\u2019t break my experience down into the pros and cons. Here are some things to think about before pulling the trigger on the Wolfman.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Pros<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The things I loved about the Wolfman include the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Great sound suppression<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Modular design<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fun to use<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Multi-caliber support<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lots of accessory options<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Made by a reputable company\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Cons<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><strong>There are a few potential drawbacks to the Wolfman, including the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An MSRP of $899 before paperwork<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are cheaper, simpler options if you want a single-caliber suppressor<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The suppressor is somewhat long and wide for pistol shooting<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pistols won\u2019t function properly without a booster<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are new to suppressors and want a simple, single-caliber option, the Wolfman may not be right for you. I\u2019ve tried a handful of other suppressors, including high-end options and budget-friendly variations. The versatility, balance, and value of the Wolfman are unmatched in my opinion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With an MSRP of $899, the Wolfman is in the middle tier of suppressors in terms of pricing. However, it packs the performance and features to justify the nearly $1,000 price tag. If you have the budget and want a great 9mm suppressor that will fit your AR-15 and a variety of other weapons systems too, I recommend the Wolfman.
